Johor sultan's new toy - a monster truck

Johor Sultan Ibrahim Ismail Iskandar will be able to literally rest on gold in his new super truck that was unveiled at the Brisbane Truck Show last month.

The custom-built Mack Super-Liner monster truck had its seats sewn with the royal crest using 72,000 stitches of real gold, according to motoring portal Paultan.org.

Although the report does not state how much the truck cost, a 2014 Mack Super-Liner without any custom cosmetic job was listed at AUD269,000 (RM779,178.90) on the website.

According a report by Australian website Motoring, the Sultan Ibrahim's office dealt directly with Mack Trucks Australia to have the truck built.

"Once built, the Super-Liner was handed over to customisers Viking Trucks, which proceeded to give the big rig a paint job featuring the Johor flag, a tiger head motif emblematic of the Johor Darul Ta’zim football team, and the royal crest.

"There are three layers of airbrushing, eight layers of pearl paint and six layers of clear coat in there," it said.

Luxury on wheels

Aside from the golden crests for the truck's seats, its leather and suede is also imported from South Africa.

"But it’s the sleeper cab that takes the cake, with a kitchenette featuring solid Jarrah timber flooring and a stone bench top, two television sets, two iPads, an Xbox and a PlayStation 4.

"There’s also a hand-built rear bumper with a hidden electric tool panel," said the report, which added that the truck is kept in Australia.

The Johor ruler had in recent months attracted media attention in Australia.

Last month, Sultan Ibrahim reportedly acquired part of Perth's old Sunset Hospital in the suburbs of Dalkeith for AUD8.5 million (RM24.6 million).

In a separate development, Bernama reports that Sultan Ibrahim donated RM1 million to the earthquake victims in Sabah.

"The Sabah government and people are thankful to His Royal Highness for the donation of RM1 million to the State Disaster Relief Fund Committee," said Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman.
